Kate & Jason in Baton Rouge, LA

Kate & Jason in Baton Rouge, LA
Kate and Jason planned a Victorian-theme celebration at an historic mansion in Baton Rouge, LA.
Photos By: Cameron Gillie, Houma
Location: Old Governor's Mansion, Baton Rouge
The ceremony took place in the bride‘s family church, the same one where Kate‘s parents and grandparents were married -- a unity candle used in both their weddings rested atop a candelabrum. The candle was also adorned with charms signifying Kate and Jason‘s married life.
Kate chose the flowers in her bouquet according to their Victorian meaning. White roses, wax flower, ivy, myrtle, leather leaf fern, and crystals respectively represented purity, riches, fidelity, passion, sincerity, and clarity of thought.
To commemorate the occasion, Kate and Jason had traditional New Orleans second line handkerchiefs printed with their names and wedding date. Guests were invited to join in the procession, as the bride and groom strutted with elaborately decorated parasols, waving the handkerchiefs in celebration.
Kate wore a strapless silk ball gown by Allure Bridals with silver embroidery, intricate crystal beadwork, and a Basque waistline. Crystal buttons cascaded down the center back of her gown, accentuating the semicathedral-length train.
Edible white roses and ribbons adorned the four-tier multiflavor wedding cake. The top tier had milk-chocolate cognac cake covered in buttercream in honor of the Victorian meaning of chocolate, which is love and romance. The second tier had an almond amaretto flavor, which signifies old age and goodness tied together. The third tier was pineapple, a Victorian symbol for hospitality. The bottom tier featured white-chocolate buttercream icing with fresh strawberries, which are the Victorian symbols for perfect goodness.

Kate Blalock and Jason Pick explored the historical significance of love in Louisiana’s Old Governor’s Mansion, with Victorian traditions and a dash of New Orleans revelry to fuel their day.

The Date January 6

One night, just after Jason dropped off his dinner date, he returned to his parking spot to find his car had been towed. Across town, Kate was having the same bad luck. Her car also was being taken to the Riverside Towing Company. It was there that fate stepped in and brought this couple together.

At Kate and Jason’s wedding, guests were not only promised a good time, but a history lesson as well. From a New Orleans second line and Victorian customs to family traditions and their own personal love story, Kate and Jason gave everyone something to read about and learn from at every turn. Silver-laced placards accented with wine-color ribbon were strategically placed around the mansion to keep guests clued in.
